| Wayne State College
The Joint Elementary Education Program between Northeast
Community College (NECC) and Wayne State College (WSC) allows
the student to continue his/her education in an endorsement program
leading to a Bachelor of Arts or Science Degree.
The student enrolled in this program will complete
the requirements for an Associate of Arts Degree at Northeast
Community College, and by transferring all satisfactorily completed
academic credits will enter Wayne State College in an endorsement
leading to the Bachelor of Arts or Science Degree.

State College Admission Gateways
Gateway 1 - Admission to Teacher Education
requires:
1. Completion of all NECC coursework required in the joint program
design.
2. 2.5 GPA in all coursework.
3. A grade of "C" or better in SPCH 1010 Fundamentals
of Communication, ENGL 1020 English Comp-position II, EDUC 1010
Introduction to Education, and all professional education courses.
4. Completion of the Pre-Professional Skills Test (PPST) with
minimum scores of 170 (Reading), 171 (Mathematics), and 172 (Writing)
or acceptable scores on the CMEE.
5. Receive favorable recommendations from NECC.
6. The same high moral and personal standards as required of certified
teachers by the laws of the State of Nebraska. Violation of institutional
and/or Board of Trustees policies or regulations can be sufficient
cause for denial of admission to or retention in the teacher education
program.
7. Teacher education students shall be free from those physical,
emotional, and mental impairments that would cause revocation
of a teaching certificate by the State Board of Education.
8. Approval of the Professional Progress Committee.
Gateway 2 - Approval to Student Teach
1. Completion of all requirements under Gateway 1 to include the
completion of all general education requirements and all requirements
for each field and/or subject endorsement.
2. A cumulative GPA of 2.5 in all coursework.
3. Completion of all professional education coursework and 100
clock hours of pre-student teaching field experience.
4. Completion of all appropriate application forms.
5. Completion of the Student Affirmation form.
Gateway 3 - Recommendation for Certification
All teacher education programs in the Division of Education at
Wayne State College are accredited by the National Council for
Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE).
Advisement Procedures
A NECC faculty advisor, Mary O'Boyle, will be available to students
on the NECC campus throughout the freshman and sophomore years.
WSC advisors are available during normal business hours or by
appointment at the WSC office in the Lifelong Learning Center
at NECC to assist students in transferring to WSC.
Field Experience
The State of Nebraska requires teacher education candidates to
complete at least 100 clock hours of pre-student teaching field
experience. WSC requires students to complete at least 80 hours
in a school setting; 20 hours may be taken in out-of-school settings
(supervising clubs, athletic teams, teaching Sunday School, etc.)
which include interactions with young children. A typical schedule
for these hours follows:
