Course Description: Introduction to the basic principles of sociology including the study of culture, socialization, social structure, social institutions, deviance, inequalities, and theoretical perspectives. See HawkNET for call number.
Course Objectives: Upon completion of the course, the student will be able to:
- Apply sociological principles to daily life and world circumstances.
- Utilize the three theories of sociology in a wide variety of applications.
- Use sociology terminology accurately and skillfully.
Content Information:
In order to receive a passing grade for SOCI 1010-90, students must complete all assignments and take all tests.
To ensure that the grade for this course transfers, students must earn a minimum grade of “C.”
Upon successful completion of this course, students will have completed the following:
- 1-page introduction
- 1 or 2-page responses to magazine or newspaper articles (double-spaced)
- ˝ to 1-page response for every chapter assigned (double-spaced) 12 total
- four exams over the chapters in the text
- at least six responses to topics on the discussion board.
- Complete about 2 chapters a week during the summer session.

- understand the difference between micro and macro sociology.
- analyze the effect of technology and science on society.
