PSYC 2110 - Psychology and Development of Childhood through Adolescence

Catalog Description: Emphasizes the physiological and psychological development of childhood through adolescence by examination of theories, behaviors, and terminology. Prerequisite: PSYC1810. See HawkNET for call number

Course Objectives:

  1. To describe and explain the changes of the developing person at different periods of childhood and adolescence.
  2. To examine possible causes or sources of developmental change and reasons for disturbances in the developmental process.
  3. Analyze different developmental events from the perspectives of five major theories of development-psychoanalytic, learning, cognitive, sociocultural, and biological systems and recognize those theories when used by others to analyze events.
  4. Explain how research contributes to the understanding of development and evaluate and use research findings to investigate a topic of interest to you.
  5. To enhance students’ awareness of the ways in which social, political, and cultural trends affect the individual.
