| Student Responsibility
The
cooperation and involvement of students in a campus safety,
security, and substance awareness program is important to
the success of the program. Students must assume responsibility
for their own personal safety, the security of their belongings,
and assist in the security of others by taking simple, common
sense precautions.
The students'
awareness of their environment and their surroundings is
of the utmost importance. Students should always report
any suspicious looking individual or unusual incident to
campus security. Residence hall students receive formal
briefings about safety and security issues when they arrive
on-campus.
Some examples
of common sense precautions are:
- Residence,
personal, or vehicle keys should be carried at all times
and never loaned to others.
- Residence room
doors should be locked even when the student leaves for
a short time.
- Books are like
money on a college campus and should not be left lying
around a classroom, cafeteria, or in the Student Center.
- Exterior doors
to the residence halls should never be propped open.
- Vehicles should
be parked in lit areas and kept locked at all times. Valuables
in vehicles should be concealed or removed.
- Walk in the
company of others in well-lit areas.
