| Campus Security
The College contracts
with a private security firm to provide general campus security.
Security officers do not have arrest powers but work closely
with local law enforcement agencies in coordinating campus
security. They conduct foot and vehicular patrols of the
campus and residence hall areas during evening and weekend
hours.
Security officers
enforce laws regulating underage drinking, the use of controlled
substances and weapons. Alcoholic beverages, illegal drugs,
firearms, and dangerous weapons of any type are not permitted
on campus. Refer to sections on Drugs and
Alcohol and Weapons Possession for more details.
Upon receipt of
a call, campus security is dispatched immediately to the
site of the complaint. They will assist in contacting local
law enforcement if required. Security officers prepare and
submit incident reports to the College administration. These
reports are reviewed by the administration for follow-up
and possible improvements in campus security and safety
policies and procedures.
Security officers
work with local law enforcement agencies to monitor and
record criminal activity at off-campus College sponsored
activities and the off-campus activities of officially recognized
student organizations.
The Physical Plant
department maintains the campus buildings and grounds with
a concern for safety and security. It inspects campus facilities
regularly, promptly makes repairs affecting safety and security,
and responds immediately to reports of potential safety
and security hazards, such as broken windows and locks.
The College campus
is well lit, including lights on buildings, in parking lot
areas, and along pathways frequently traveled by students
and staff. In addition to telephone access in each student's
room or employee's office, there is an outdoor phone for
emergencies located near the Science Building.
